sighting in a Ruger Blackhawk

Postby dager » Mon Sep 17, 2007 9:04 pm

I have a Ruger Blackhawk in 45 LC with the 4 3/4 barrel and I am having a hard time getting it sighted in. If I line up at the top of the front sight, I shoot too low however if I line up with the base of the front sight, I shoot too high. Where in between should I align the front sight?

Thanks

You align the sights so that the front sight is centered in the rear sight notch and level with the top. Then, your target is JUST on top of the front sight.

When shooting, your primary focus should be on the front sight... the rear sight and the target are secondary.

You don't adjust your sight picture, as you seem to be doing; shoot 5 shots with the sight picture I described above... then adjust the rear sight to get the groups centered on the bull. Since you have a Blackhawk, your rear sight is fully adjustable for both windage and elevation. Take a look through the owner's manual if you don't know how to adjust a sight.

Edited to add......

GSP, Are you referring to the "Raise yor head way back to get the sites lined up , lower it slightly to be sure, then drop your chin to your chest to make sure the target's still there" style of shooting? I ain't quite there yet ,but...
