5 shot or 6 shot revolver?

Blue finish, nickel finish or stainless steel?

Open the cylinder and look on the inside of the frame and see if you see a mod. #

I think it depends on condition/year. I've seen old model 36 guns here in MA starting at $299 used, and up depending on condition/year. S&W generally holds value as it's not made out of cheapo pot metal. They have recently re-released the "classics" as can be seen on their site...

alrite well with the serial number (j96957) can anyone tell me about how old this gun is? and tell me an estimate on how much its worth? as far as condition goes its been kept in pretty great condition, no rust or scratches. like i said above its a model 36, says made in usa, marcas registrad (not sure what that means) and has the smith and wesson trademark stamp.

Thanks

First NEVER post the full serial number, leave out the last three digits.

The value depending on condition ranges for $170 to $425.

as said, depends on condition. however, I would guess at $450 if good condition................. and your model 36 is called 'J frame'
