Old 22 SHORT SINGLE SHOT ?

Postby gramps » Thu Jan 21, 2010 9:30 am

THIS OLD PISTOL IS PRETTY ROUGH BUT LOOKS AS IF IT COULD BE FIRED SAFELY.IT IS MARKED "J G A", LETTERS ARE STACKED IN AN OVAL INDENT AND FOLLOWED TO THE SIDE WITH "GM". IT HAS NO TRIGGER GUARD AND THE BREECH IS A THIN METAL PIECE WHICH IS FASTENED ON THE LEFT SIDE WITH A RIVET AND ROTATES UP AND OVER TO CLEAR THE CHAMBER. ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BREECH IS A LARGE TANG WHICH WHEN PULLED BACK IS THE EXTRACTOR.THE PISTOL'S TOTAL LENGTH IS 4 1/2 IN.THE BARREL IS 2 IN. LONG. THERE IS A PORT DRILLED INTO THE TOP OF THE CHAMBER AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE TO THE FRONT FOR AN UNKNOWN REASON , IT APPEARS TO BE ORIGINAL DURING MFG. FIRING PIN IS PART OF THE HAMMER AND IS SQUARE IN DIMENTION . GRIPS ARE METAL AND HAVE A NICE SHAPE.
CAN ANYONE HELP?

Sounds like an old J.G Anshutz target / parlor pistol but in rough shape. If the port cutout is open to the front of the breech it may be a pinfire gun.Pictures would help.
