Actually, yes. Both Colt and Smith & Wesson have manufactured autoloaders chambered for the .38 Special wadcutter cartridge. The Colt 1911 style pistol was known as the .38 AMU, and the S&W was known as the Model 52. Both are long out of production.

As a matter of interest, I recently encountered in a friend's estate some .38 Special cartridges that were specifically manufactured as "rimless" type, but I'm not sure what their application was.
