New here...came over from SGW.

My Colt 1991 has company on the pistol rack. a nearly new never fired one I found last month. It will get a trigger job, but I don't know what else. it came with an ambi safety and was sure fun to shoot a pair of 1911's (one in each hand). I always wanted to do that. now I can.

Hi Mike!

Nice guns. I bought a Springfield Armory 1911 today. The 1911 is a great gun, regardless of who makes it. Maybe someday I'll want a second one too. Until then one is enough for me.

It looks like the 1991 with novak sights and the extended mag is a little bigger than the one with the ambidextrous safety. Is that just an illusion or are they different sizes?

same gun. photo is at a bit of an angle so the close one looks big.

that is an 8 rd chip mckormick magazine with novak extreme adj night sights. when they milled it out, the slide got refinished a darker blue. I will send off the frame sooner or later to match. the front gun also has the NM barrel bushing and welded up lugs on the original colt barrel for accuracy. I couldn't remember what it shot like in '95 before I fixed it up and now I remember. the stock one groups kind of loose. a trigger will help that some. I think I may keep the sights stock and the finish parked. that will save a ton.

my gunsmith can hook the rest up reasonably cheap I think.

1911's are dangerous. all the parts, work, refinishing costs and magazines cost a ton. I have found the Mckormick mags to be better than stock. I have also ran new in pkg vietnam era mags and still like the 8 round aftermarket ones better.

I have less jams with those when I run a heavy spring with light target loads. I seem to recall milspecs had a heavy trigger out of the box, but otherwise, any other work seemed optional.

I want to try an arched mainspring housing and short trigger on a 1911 some day. point of aim tends to stay higher with that setup.

AK, I seen posts of your pistol a couple times and have refrained--thus far--from sending this:

God forbid you ever have to use your pistol in a self-defense situation. Those grips with the skull are a civil suit attorney's dream-come-true. His take would be that you are looking for a reason to take someone's life.

Perhaps Paul will see this post and give you more definitive advice, but mine would be to lose the skulls and put on something more businesslike.

Respectfully,
T
