I've got a Gamo V-3 that is a dead ringer for my 1911 compact. It even fits perfectly in the Kydex holster I have for it. I can't guess how many rounds I have through it, it seems I'm always picking up CO2 cylinders. Grasshoppers, milkweed pods, and thistleheads aren't safe from me when I am armed with it. Air pistols (and rifle) are great learning equipment as the low cost allows for plenty of practice, backstops for such are easy to make, and the slow velocities make good technique imperitive for good accuracy.
