First post here at pistolworld. First like to say howdy to all on the forums.

My question is what would be a good standerd barrel length for a hunting revolver ? I was thinking something along the lines of atleast 7 1/2" would do the job. Any thaughts from those who hunt with pistols could give some input and or advice.

Thanks.

I know of some folks who prefer a 4". but my hunting revolver is a 7 1/2" SAA revolver in .45 Colt.

I would prefer something 6" or a little more. I have used an 8 1/2" S&W revolver in the past, and while it was extremely accurate, it was a little unwieldy in the woods.

I am using the 7 1/2" because I already had it, and it really shoots well.

Thanks dogngun for your responce. Not sure now if I'll go with a Ruger 44 or the Thompson G2 or Encore.

A guy at work pretty much said the same thing.
If I'm going to put a scope on it, 6 to 7 1/2 would be plenty.

Yes it would be for hunting, I put this in the wrong thread.

Thanks:
