I have ammo and reload for both 45 Colt and 45 ACP. I need one more gun this year. Which one should I get? Informal target and stump shooting is about all I do anymore. I have had both types and enjoy shooting both. Guess money is the thing this time of the year ,so it going to have to be one or
the other. Your opinions might help?

If you have ammo for both, buy the convertible Blackhawk. I'd buy the stainless one with the short barrel if its for target shooting. For hunting,I'd get the longer barrel. One of these would probably run ya less than $500. To buy what I consider a quality 1911, you'll have to spend quite a bit more. But there is something about the way they feel and shoot!

Just my 2 cents worth...

Don't forget that brass is easier to pick up with the Ruger than with a 1911, especially if one is informally plinking in the woods. This can be an important factor for a reloader. I've been toying with this combination myself; if one comes by at the right price I'll pick it up.

How much do you enjoy reloading? The convertible Blackhawk allows use of less expensive and readily available .45 ACP factory ammo for plinking or casual range shooting and "Ruger only" loads for hunting. Somebody who likes reloading can do it all with just the .45 Colt.

Exactly! I have the 2 cylinder Blackhawk, and I reload. I have put some redline .45 LC loads through that pistol that gave a rather impressive report with recoil to match and a long flame with the noise. It is great for us overgrown kids!
And these days I pretty much just shoot cheapo .45 ACP... getting old, I guess  .
