Actually it was a common conversion in the bullseye world I believe Mr. James Clark was the first to popularize this conversion. and was the option for those that wanted to shoot .38Spl in the centerfire leg of a 2700

.38SPL flush seated wadcutter hollow base 148gr. will stack in a .38 Super magazine I can fit and thumb out 3 from my unmodified mag for my IPSC Super

Clark Custom Guns should be able to advise you in this matter or possibly supply modified magazines

The rims slide in and seat in front of the previous cartridge in the magazine like an old Enfield rifle however in an unmodified Super mag they suffer from curl like tapered rifle casings ala AK47 so the 4th. round noses down and catches front of magazine..
