I have an aquaintance who has a concealed carry permit and has recieved some training. He is in his low-to-mid 20's. He is a fairly decent fellow, maybe a bit prone to the dramatic.

At any rate, he carries a Glock concealed most of the time. I have zero problem with that. However, from time to time, he feels it necessary to pull the pistol out, flash it, fiddle with the slide, and say some corny line ("let's do this" seems to be a favorite). This practice makes me uncomfortable, even though it is generally done in a more private location.

What do you think? I think the weapon should be handled with more respect. While I'm sure he's proud of the ability to carry concealed and to have a decent pistol, it seems a bit much.

it is fine to fondle your gun in private, or at the range, otherwise it should stay in the holster until it is really needed.
in otherwords dont pull it, unless you NEED it!

And, what he's doing is pretty much just like the anti-gunners talk about when they speak of phallic symbols and making up for shortcomings.

Since I'm in a state where CCW isn't in the stars yet, I can't assert for a fact but would believe what he's doing is against the instructors teachings (priovided a course was required before issuance of the CCW)

I have to agree with MarlandS. This behavior shows a definate lack of maturity and will eventually get your aquaintance in trouble. I believe it only takes one complaint from a concerned witness to have that CCW suspended or revoked. A CCW is for personal protection of yourself and those around you, not to make you feel manly. Tell this guy to grow up or leave it at home, he's making the rest of us look bad. :evil:

I just remembered that there was a guy I used to work with that did the same thing at a party once. I wasn't there but pictures were taken of him swinging his pistol around in a crowded room and he lost his CCW. Is it really worth it?

Showing your gun publicly may also inspire some punk to rob you for your gun. All he has to do is come up behind you with a knife and relieve you of your weapon.

I thought this same thing. A gun wont help you if some guy knows where you carry it and comes from behind to snatch it.

I think you should wait till he does it again and take the time to bring up your concerns with him. If you dont like him very much to begin with, just report him. I imagine this happenning to me (I am not a lucky person), I would be hanging out with this guy while he is playing with his gun in public (eeww) and some mother with her four kids walks past us and decides to call the police and push any legal issues. Why should peoples lives be complicated like this for nonsense?

i admit that i like to cycles my guns n play around with em unloaded when im at home in private but i would never act that immature at a public place like a nice shooting range or gun club

tell ur friend that flashing his gun around is a surefire way to get shot

This is the kind of nonsense that plays to the anti's view of no gun is a good gun. For those of us that live in states that concealed carry will never happen in our lifetime it's almost painful to hear this kind of crap. Just like driving a car concealed carry is a privledge that should not be abused by those who don't understand the value. "Flashing the piece" is a product of watching too many movies.

Firearms are firearms and not toys. Even if they are unloaded they should be treated like they are loaded.

The guy "flashing his peice" does NOT need to be carrying a firearm concealed.

Truthfully I'm a lover of guns and joke around a bit around my buddies too. When I say joke around I mean unloaded, treating it as if it is loaded, but still maybe letting the slide lock in position with a funny movie quote.
I don't think I would ever "flash" my piece in public. Although, that's been my training with handguns. I know that Police officers often bring out their handguns in situations were they "may" be required to shoot it. I've always been taught to bring it out at the last second only to make a shot. I just realized while typing this that that has nothing to do with the topic, so sorry for that.
Anyway, back to playing around. Guns are cool to look at it you enjoy them and are interested. Obviously just follow the normal safe rules and I don't think it's a problem as long as other people are comfortable with it and know your intentions.

i saw a funny video on the net where this cop was demonstrating gun safty to a buncha ppl (including kids) and he was all saying that he knows how to handle guns saftly more than the average person n the next thing u know is that he shoots himself in the foot :lol: :lol:

lol too bad he didnt shoot the other one too cuz i hate cocky ppl

I appreciate everyones opinion on the topic. Makes me feel a lot better knowing I'm not being hyper-sensitive to the situation.

Maser - I would probably refrain from making disparaging comments about law enforcement. Even if you don't respect them, many of the folks here and at SGW either are or were in law enforcement at some time. Just doesn't bode too well with the natives. :wink:

Huh, thought I was the only one who ignored him.

And as far at the 20 year old flashing the gun around, grow up. I'm only 23 and I carry, and nobody knows. CCW is for protection, not showing off.
