How does one go about finding the manufacturing date of a particular pistol?
I purchased the weapon used and have no idea how old it is.

Just curious.

Depends on who made the pistol. Some companies, such as Ruger have that info, based on serial #, on their websites.

Some books and internet sites have extensive info on different companies.

Some times you can only find out from calling the manufacturer and not all manufacturers eager to respond to such calls.

Thanks.
The weapon is a SIG P229 (9mm).
I finally emailed SIG.
They responded that they would be glad to help.
I have as yet to receive the mfg date.

Heard from SIG.
Manufactured July 1995.

Congratulations! Some of the highly opinionated folks on here think the SIGS are top-drawer. I know I do.
Shoot safe. Recruit a new shooter.
