Ok ,so a 243 is not a pistol caliber.
My son recently purchased a Savage 243 bolt action rifle. Since the Ammo is getting so high priced ,I told him I would reload for it. Bought some fired cases on Auction Arms
As I started depriming them I discovered 18 rounds of Herter head stamped cases. I left the old primer in put them in the tumbler for 2 hours. Now we have 18 shiney old Herter cases. Any one think they miight have some collector value?? Don't think we will reload them for a while and see what happens.
Temps hit 50 today . Feels like its time to get out the Single six, conv.Model 60 357 and the 686 and head to the range.
Made a stop at the local farm store today and cant believe the prices on center fire ammo. ONe of the larger calibers(rifle) was $34.95 for a 20count box. AA shotgun shells up to $7.99. Makes me glad I have 2 Mecs.

There are a fair number of Herters collectors out there, what they'll pay for some items is unbelievable. I would suspect the brass would bring a more modest price but who knows? I have sold a fair bit of Herters memorabilia over the years, loaded rounds have been more popular than the few brass I've run across. I have a local source who sells my stuff at gunshows for a small conmmision and I get a fair enough price to keep me happy. Running an ad on EBay or looking for a Herters collector's group (I know they're out there) might bring a better price but I hate taking the chance of being ripped off or answering inane questions.

At $16 per box, the V-Max bullets are an OK price, the 100 gr soft points are a bit high. I think the 100 gr Federal Game Shock bullets in .243 can be found in the catalog at $9.99 a box, at least they are on the store shelf at that price. You may also be able to find some of the same at Wal-Mart for that price though that is becoming rare as it sells out. If one looks around they should be able to beat the 100 gr price by at least a dollar at most larger retail outlets. I also don't like that one never knows what they will send you in the ammo box; at the store I've opened the boxes to find HSM, S&B, an unknown manufacturer in a plain white box, Ultramax, and once Wolf Gold. I guess whatever they have the cheapest is what gets put inside.
