I recently picked up an Iver Johnson .32 5 shot spur trigger revolver from a friend that didnt want it.He said it was his great grandmother's "purse pistol"There arent many markings visible on the gun, and im not familiar with older pistols. Would this be black powder or nitro? Is it safe to shoot, if yes what loads does it take? Id appreciate any info.
Thanks

It should chamber the 32 S&W cartridge, at least that is all I have ever seen made by Iver Johnson. The 32 S&W started out as a blackpowder round and made the switch to smokeless early in the 1900s though blackpowder loads were still available for a couple of decades later. I can't tell you if your gun is safe to use with smokeless powder or not as I can't hold it in my hands and examine it. Take it to a gunsmith and have him look at it. Odds are it will be safe with factory loads but these are also not high end guns so they can be quickly damaged with modern loads, even if "safe" for modern loads.
