I have just gotten a Model 17-8 K-22 with the S# CAT 02**, 10 shot (I wish it was a 6 shooter).
I have written to S&W with no reply
Anyone have an idea when it might have been made? I suspect that it is the second series?? since it has the new shape cylinder release. It also has a nice matte blue finish. Kinda nice. I would also like to find a copy of a manual for this vintage Smith.

If you look on Gunbroker, You will find manuals sometimes. Here's a link to a guy who sells reproduction manuals... this one is probably not your exact model, but you might email him if all you want is the information, repro might get you by if he has your model on hand.

Actual manuals tend to list in the 20-30 dollar range.

You might also look into a S&W shop manual for K frame revolvers. That will get you a complete takedown and troubleshooting guide.

Thanks I should have that in book my library. The manual that was on the Gun Broker was the "old style" 17, I am sure that mine is of the recent issue.

According to the Blue Book of Gun Values, S&W only made the 10 shot variation 1996-98.
