I've got a Ruger Vaquero with the "case colored" finish, however, it was a pretty crappy job. I talked with someone at Doug Turnbull (Turnbill?), but he was extremely rude, and I don't care to do business with them. Has anyone had their gun refinished in this way? How much did it cost?

The guy at Turnbull was probably impatient for a couple of reasons...

1) the cost of a Turnbull case coloring would vastly exceed the value of your Vaquero. I understand that he's mostly sticking to valuable antique restorations these days.

2) Your Ruger has a chemically applied "color" finish, not a true color case hardening (bone and charcoal). They would need to remove the factory finish to bare steel to be able to work on your gun.

No excuse for rudeness, but they probably get calls all day long from folks who are either dreaming about a Turnbull finish or totally stunned to discover how much it actually costs to have done.
