.454 isn't available in the Redhawk.... Super Redhawk, yes. Put a set of Hogue molded grips on it, and you can shoot it all day (see my avatar). Mine is a .44 mag, but my son has a .454 with the same grips; between the grips and the weight, it's not bad at all, even with full-house loads.

I have one of these in .454 and like it a lot. I find the grips to be fairly decent fitting but that is an individual decision. I agree the trigger could use some work which isn't possible but it is good enough for my use. I use mine as a back up to my rifle in brown bear territory. I generally carry the heaviest Buffalo Bore rounds I can get. I also have some difficulty extracting empties when these hot loads are used. I've read that is due to the chamber expanding slightly but over all I decided it isn't important. I either use lighter rounds to practice or deer hunt with which don't cause this to occur and if I should need to use it with the heavy rounds, I figure all will be decided with one cylinder.
From the little experience I've had with the Taurus I think the Ruger is much better though the Freedom Arms is much stronger and heavier. Recoil for all of them didn't seem to be too bad with most rounds though the Ruger probably had the most recoil. The Freedom Arms is heavier and the Taurus was ported so it was not an apples to apples comparison. For the price I think the Ruger is the best value.

This is my .454 Casull and .44 Magnum Ruger Super Redhawks. Both are well built sturdy guns. My only complaint about the .454 is I don't care much for the "Target Grey" finish. I'm told this is because it is constructed of a special variety of Stainless Steel to better take the 63,000 PSI generated by the much more powerful Casull round. Bill T.

i just picked up a .454 super redhawk yesterday. i practically stole it off i guy outside of a pawnshop. he said the guy inside was a a-hole, and only offered him $350. i offered him $450 and he took it. this gun looks brand new. it is in the factory case, and the scope rings are still factory sealed. i shot it today, with .45 colt+p+ handloads. (240gr xtp @ approx 1400 fps) it wasn't bad at all. i know that load is not a true .454 load but i was limited to the supplies i had on hand. i guess i'll be accuiring some .454 brass and some different powder and work up some true casull loads. any pet loads???

finally got to go shooting. i loaded up some casull rounds, hornady 250gr. over 25gr of bluedot. approx fps is 1850.
boy can you tell that this ain't no plinker. still, it was shootable. now comes the fun part,(NOT) load up some more rounds and head back to the range and sight this thing in off the bench. it always seems worst when shooting off the bench.

That don't look like something I'd want to shoot!
Between the muzzleblast and recoil, I can't imagine which would be worse.

Of course that's just me! How's it shoot?

recoil is a little on the heavy side, but is managable. It shoots pretty good.
