New to the forum, so hello...

I just recently purchased a used Smith and Wesson .38 Special. It has 38 [email protected] SPL. stamped on one side of the barrel and Smith @ Wesson on the other side. On the bottom of the handle this number is stamped in it - C999285.

If I had to guess the pistol is in 90% new condition. Can someone give me an idea of what this pistol is worth. Also I'm curious to know what exactly this model is called, if there is name for it.

Appreciate any info, thanks!

Open the cylinder and look on the frame for a model number.

Is it a five shot or six shot?

Blued, nickel, or stainless?

fixed sights or adjustable?

Length of barrel?

round butt or square butt?

Does it have a visible hammer? If so, is it shrouded?

Open the cylinder and look on the frame for a model number. I found 2 stampings with the cylinder open. The first one is stamped "MOD" with "10-5" stamped right under it. The other number is stamped on the swing out of the cylinder "17077" and the letter "E" under it and then the letter "S" stamped under that.

Is it a five shot or six shot? 6 shot

Blued, nickel, or stainless? Blued

fixed sights or adjustable? Fixed

Length of barrel? Snub nose? Maybe 2''?

round butt or square butt? Square

Does it have a visible hammer? If so, is it shrouded?
Yes it has a visible hammer, not sure what shrouded is? Looks like a regular hammer...

Thanks for the help!
