My 226 (serial U 672 XXX) has developed a peculiar, though not fatal, problem: the hammer does not reset to the safety notch position after it strikes the firing pin; rather, it floats freely between the firing pin and the safety notch. This isn't a problem in live fire, since the hammer is reset by the slide, but it is especially noticeable in dry-fire.
I have Hogue rubber grips (the two-panel type, without finger grooves) installed, which I read somewhere could cause such a problem, though I can't see where.
Anyone experience this problem or have any insight? I would rather not spend $35 to send the gun into SIG (and lose it for two weeks) if at all possible, since it shoots fine otherwise.
Cheers.
