Smith and Wesson 41 Magnum Value and Info

I am looking for a way to find a value for this gun I inherited. It is a Smith and Wesson 41 Magnum. I have the s/n but don't know if that tells me when it was produced. I think that the last part of the number is the model but I am not sure if it is or not. It is MOD 57. Can anyone give me any information of the production of this gun and maybe if it is still made or when production was stopped. Thanks

S&W, model 57, was produced from 1964 to 1993.

Last MSRP was $466.00

A serial # with an "S" prefix was made from 1964 to 1968.

A serial # with an "N" prefix was made from 1969 to 1993.

The Blue Book of Gun Values (28th edition) list the following values:

100% 98% 95% 90% 80% 70% 60%

$650 $575 $475 $400 $350 $300 $250

add 10-20% for "S" prefix serial #
add 10% for nickel finish if NIB
add 5% for 8 3/8 inch barrel
add 10% for pinned barrel and recessed cylinder

there were 4 engineering changes to this model, so if you open the cylinder and look on the frame you should see mod. 57, mod. 57-2, mod.57-3 or mod. 57-4.
