Smith & Wesson Receives Pistol Order From California Highway Patrol

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., May 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Smith & Wesson
Holding Corporation (Amex: SWB), parent company of Smith & Wesson Corp.,
the legendary 154-year old global provider of products and services for
safety, security, protection and sport, today announced that it has secured
an order from the California Highway Patrol for approximately 9,700 Smith &
Wesson Tactical (TSW) pistols. The Model 4006TSW is chambered for .40S&W
ammunition and features a durable design engineered to provide law
enforcement officers with reliable versatility.
The 4006TSW pistols will be shipped over an 18-month period beginning
in June 2006. The order will equip each officer of the California Highway
Patrol with a new 4006TSW, to replace early-model Smith & Wesson pistols
that have served as the primary duty firearm for the department for 16
years. The order will also provide inventory for future California Highway
Patrol officers.
The Model 4006TSW features a stainless steel frame and slide for
increased durability. The pistol is designed with a four-inch barrel and
has an overall length of 7-1/2 inches. With a checkered front strap and
ambidextrous spring- loaded de-cocking lever for both right and left-handed
shooters, the 4006TSW is well suited for any tactical application. The
pistol is outfitted with a Picatinny Style equipment rail for the addition
of lights and lasers and holds 11 rounds in the magazine plus one in the
chamber. The 4006TSW comes standard with a white dot front sight and a
Novak Lo Mount Carry fixed rear sight.
Tom Taylor, Smith & Wesson's Vice President of Marketing, said, "Smith
& Wesson is committed to offering military and police personnel a full
array of firearms to support their needs both on and off duty. Our current
portfolio contains a wide variety of firearms, each designed to fulfill a
specific need in the marketplace. Whether officers prefer the durability of
the 4006TSW, the lightweight M&P Pistol Series or our traditional Smith &
Wesson revolvers, we have a model to match each officer's personal
preference. We are honored to be working with the men and women of the
California Highway Patrol and are very pleased that they continue to use a
Smith & Wesson as their primary duty firearm."
