I was looking at a Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec for general shooting, and home defense. Here is a link to what i'm looking at http://www.springfield-armory.com/prod- ... 1-ms.shtml

Is this a good, reliable, gun for my purposes?

The Mil-Spec 1911 from Springfield Armory is your basic, no-frills 1911.... just like the GIs used in WW I, WW II, Korea, and Vietnam.

The Springfield GI model is Brazilian-made, but I've not heard any complaints about quality. I personally know only one owner, and I've shot his.... it's not a race gun, but it's a good, sloid performer.

Dollar for dollar, I feel Springfield Armory is the best value out there. That runs the whole line from the least expensive GI model to the guns from their Custom Shop. You can find cheaper guns but none as reliable overall as SA.

The Springfield is a very well made reliable handgun. The Mil-Spec isnt customized or accurized, it simply gets the job done. :wink:

If I was gonna work on a single stack it would be a Springfield.

You just can't go wrong with a 1911 and the reliablity is second to none. I keep an Auto Ordnance by my side for home defense and would gladly bet my life on it.

Maybe not gladly. :wink: Eventually I will be getting a springfield. It's not a top priority right now though.

I would like to see Springfield do a true Commander, similar to the MilSpec.

A Mil-Spec commander in 9mm would be great if it cost the same as a regular mil-spec.

My name shows I use a Ruger p-85 9mm pistol but I also own and carry a Springfield compact (4") .45 Really like to shoot it.
