I was wondering if anyone knows of a shop who can take a stainless steel pistol and refinish it to look like the Ruger "TargetGrey Finish"? was thinking of a possible project gun, to have someting different. Any suggestions or links would be appreciated.

Also any technical information on the greyed ss finish would be nice. If anyone has one of the ruger guns, comments on durability appreciated.

Thanks, 16'er

I would call Wilson Combat and talk to them - and see if they will do it for you ? They have the Armor-tuff finish in a mat gray - if that will fit what you want. If you look at wilsoncombat.com and the protector stainless two-tone model you'll see the mat gray Armor Tuff finish mixed with some polished stainless on that model. If I'm reading their catalog correctly - it's $ 215 plus about $40 for freight etc - but call them at 1-800-955-4856 and see what they have to say. There are places that will put an elctrostatic finish on guns too - kind of like a powder coat. But I don't know how durable it is. Wilson's Armor Tuff finish is great - in my opinion. Les Baer has a T chrome finish - where the flats are blued - and the rounded portions of slide, frame etc are a matt gray/matt chrome. I have that finish in a Baer Monolith 1911 - but I can't say I would recommend it - and I think it would take months to get your gun back from Les Baer he has such a big backlog.

Page 32 of the Wilson catalog tells about the Armor Tuff finish - and it's all done in Barryville, AR.
