Terrible time to find some guns for sale

4179 Views 10 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  boxmaker
I took a coworker/friend to the range today and found a chinese 9mm broomhandle mauser in very good condition with a detachable mag for $550 and an Interarms PPK/S blued in .380 for $375 on the way out. I want both VERY badly and the money just isn't there. I could dip into my savings which I haven't touched since I was 16 but I try to draw the boundry at the savings account. Should I do it? The PPK I can wait on but the C96 I must have.

Stick with your self-imposed principles.
I'm a bad influence when it comes to saying no - but I would never go into savings to buy a gun.

When I buy guns, it's never something I need, it's just something I want (I'm not involved in a job where I "need a gun" - so I use my "play money". I may save up my budgeted "play money" for 3 or 4 months - and then buy - but not dip into any long term savings. But don't hold off forever either - you have to enjoy the journey ......but someday, guns under $1,000 won't be as much money as they may be to you today either. Everything in due time....but easy for me to say.
If a certain model has been discontinued for years it would sway my decision

That's exactly the issue here. I can't find these anywhere in this condition for this price. I think I'll sell a newer gun that I can always rebuy later or an older one like my K98 Mauser (make me an offer) that I don't use to get the broomhandle.
I've put the gun in lawayay so I have a full month to pay for it. I didn't know that was even an option so I'm definately happy with how that worked out. I won't be spending any saved money at all now. I decided to skip the PPK since I can always find one later. The Broomhandle Mauser I've only seen once and it was in terrible condition for twice the price of this one. I'll have to cut back on my Guinness consumption for a short while but it will be worth it.
Glad to hear you got it-you did the right thing!!!!

Buying guns and beer at the same time isn't a good idea anyway ;)

What's a broomhandle Mauser anyway?

C96 "Broomhandle" Mauser

It's like this except mine's a 9mm with a 20 round detachable mag. Mine is of Chinese manufacture. I'm going to keep my eyes open for a German C96 but I don't really need two. I'll have plenty of pictures up after I get it.

Ahhh. So that's what it is. Wasn't this thing in some John Wayne western where his grandson was kidnapped?
