what model is this?

This pistol was "acquired" while stationed in Korea in the early 70's. There is lots of corrosion, probably from being lost in the Korean war, and later picked up by a local. Any help would be appreciated so that its history would be complete.

Looks to be a K Frame. I think it's the S&W M&P model but with a 6" barrel.

I believe it is the pre-M&P. The large "mushroom" knob died with the engineering change dated Jan 22, 1927. I large end died in 1947. :wink:
