Personally I like the S&W revolvers - and my all time favorite is probably the S&W mod 27 in .357 mag and a 6" barrel.

S&Ws have a nice fit, finish and feel to them, but I prefer my Ruger because of how well it's built and designed.

As for caliber, the .357 Magnum. Not too powerful, plenty of strength even in this day and age, and I just like the number.

My favorite is an old S&W M-17 with the 3-Ts; target trigger, target hammer, and target stocks. I bought one many years ago as a gift to my dad. It was one of his dream guns but never got around to getting. In later years he did not like the look of the newer ones and kind of gave up the dream. Finding a nearly mint one form the early '60s was a shock to him. For this reason it is my favorite.

At the range.... S&W Model 19 - 4".

In the woods (packing).... Ruger Security Six - 4"

In the woods (hunting).... Ruger Super Redhawk .44 Mag - 7-1/2"

In the nightstand..... Ruger SP 101 .357 Mag - 3"

Now I suppose somebody's gonna come along and say I have to narrow it down to 1.

I would never restrict you to just one - can't have just one of anything ( they get lonely in the safe ...).

every thing I own is a semi, with exception of a SW mod 10 in .30 that I captured in Korea, and a Ruger super redhawk .44 mag. So I guess it would be the .44. I don't shoot the Mod 10 a whole lot as it slips time on the cylinder and shaves lead.

My favorite caliber for the wheel gun? Gotta be the 45LC! It's been around a long time and it works! If it ain't broke don't fix it.
The Ruger Blackhawk is excellent for taking large game such as deer, handles well and has good balance. With the correct cylinder it'll shoot .45acp, which happens to be my personal favorite as that is what I carry on duty.
Regards

Favorite Hum... thats a tough one, for sentimental reason I'd have to pick my unfired Colt Single Action 45 that was given to me by my previous bossman.

Mine has to be the 6 inch Colt Python .357 magnum in the blue; runner-up would be the S&W Classic Hunter .44 magnum in the 6 to 8 inch barrel length.

It is a toss up between a Smith and Wesson K-22 6", blue and a 657 Classic Hunter in .41 Magnum.

But I am getting old and cannot make up my mind so, a 629 Mountain Gun in 44 magnum...hard to choose.

That varies from time to time, but presently it's this one in .45 Colt:

I'm just recently reunited with my old Ruger Security Six/.357, it's a 4" stainless steel model w/ Pachmayr grips. I picked up one load for it yesterday, Federal Premium 'Low Recoil' 130 gr. Hydra-Shok. 20 rounds for $15 + tax....ouch. At 75 feet from a standing rest I had a tight group of 3 (8-9 ring) & 3 in the 7-8 ring on a 50 foot target. Of course I touched those shots off single action.

For a double action revolver I love the S&W Model 686 Distinguised Combat Revolver, 4 inch barrel, SS, full lug,
in .357/.38+P.

For single action, my pick is the Ruger Vacquero in .357 with 4and3/4 inch barrel.
