When did Sig change their hammer design? I just bought a used 220 and in comparing them with my 229 and other 220's I've found on the internet, the hammer design is different. Mine is more blade like where as the "newer" ones are more blocky.

Any info on this would be most appreciated.

I'm not able to answer your question entirely but perhaps I can narrow down your search. I purchased a p229 in 1995 that had the "new" hammer. I believe the 229 was introduced just a few years earlier. I've seen several pictures of the first model Sig produced, which if I remember correctly, was a .45 acp; and the picture you posted of the "old" hammer looked like the picture I've seen of these firearms. This leads me to believe the "old" hammer series comes from one of the first several production models from Sig. Hopefully this can help narrow down your search. If your question is really itching your curiosity google sig history and I'm sure you will find books or url's detailing production changes with Sig. Good luck.
Sorry my pics are not that great, is was taken with my phone...my dig camera was at work.
